NERO
NERO (formally the New England Role playing Organization) is a fantasy live-combat larp franchise in the USA. It is one of the oldest larp franchises in the USA and a default system. It has spawned a large number of offshoots such as Alliance, SOLAR, LAIRE and Heroic Interactive Theater,[1] and is a significant influence on US larp design.
All NERO chapters share the same setting, the World of Tyrra, allowing characters to transfer between games.
Rules
The rules are based heavily on the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop role-playing game. Players select a race and class, and increase in level and hit points as they gain experience. There is also a skill system, with various calls to convey effects. Combat uses live-combat with boffer weapons and packet archery. Magic is handled by spell packets and verbal calls.
History
NERO was founded in 1989 by Ford Ivey. In 1998 Joseph Valenti purchased NERO from Ivey. As of 2016, NERO has 33 chapters in the USA and one in Canada, though many chapters cover a significant area.[2]
