The International Fantasy Gaming Society (IFGS) is a a non-profit organization that produces fantasy LARP events and campaigns in the USA. It is one of the oldest active larp organisations in the world.
The IFGS has chapters in Dallas, TX, Denver, CO, Oklahoma, Southern California and the Pacific Northwest. Each chapter runs its own setting; there is no shared setting between chapters.
History
The first IFGS event was held in the summer of 1981 near Boulder, Colorado. The name of the organization derives from the Dream Park novels of Larry Niven and Steven Barnes, in which a futuristic theme park provides realistic role-playing adventures. The name is used with the authors' permission.
Rules
The rules are based heavily on the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop role-playing game, with characters defined by a class and gaining hit points as they increase in level. Combat uses live-combat with boffer weapons and thrown beanbags for thrown weapons. Archery and magic use verbal calls.
