A hook is something that catches attention and pulls people in a desired direction.
Within larp, it can be used in conversations around elevator pitches[1], either to refer to the pitch as a whole or specifically to the core part of the pitch that is expected to stand out, grab people's attention, and persuade the right audience to sign up to the game.
It can also be used in context of a plot hook, where it can refer to the clues or openings found within the game that enable players to get involved in different plots.

- Calibration - hooks can be a less visible part of calibration, in attempting to calibrate marketing to the audience who will most likely buy in to the game and its core premise; as well as continuously calibrating player engagement and behaviour within ongoing games by offering the right hooks at the right time.
