Shattered World was an Australian Battle game larp, run under the LarpWest banner, which concluded in 2022 after 9 years of running. Players were required to hold LarpWest memberships to attend events.

Setting

Set in the world of Veridian.

Game history

The inaugural game of Shattered World was held on 5th July-7th July 2013.

At the time of concluding, Shattered World was Western Australia's longest-running LARP.

Original team:

  • Challis David Barnes - lead organiser, 6 years

Other organisers:

  • Kirsty Anderson - various NPC / leader roles. Later went on to be one of the creators of Boothill LARP as Lead Story Organiser.
  • Sharlea Davey - Communications organiser

The Shattered World final organiser team as of the last event included:

  • Dee Brennan - Lead Organiser
  • Mark Williams - Mechanics Organiser
  • Anya Violet Pearce - Lead Story Organiser
  • Evan Andeson - Lead Build Organiser
  • James Brown - Logistics Organiser
  • Carolyn Roe - Communications Organiser - previous contributions included photography and subcommittee work

Originally a twelfth game was planned for the finale of Shattered World. However, due to personal health of some organisers and a need to step back from involvement, the game was wrapped up earlier.

The last game was titled Shattered World 11: Respite, and concluded on the 15th of August 2022.

At closing, the club used remaining funds to perform handover duties - including site clean-up - as well as to set up a $7500 fund, to be distributed amongst other larps, to assist in new larps getting off the ground with props and venue hire. The grants program provided up to $1500 towards good ideas pitched by the community.

Grant applications were concluded on the 16th of August 2022 and provided grants to the following groups:

  • Faith and Steel, for toilet hire,
  • the Boddington site build team, to purchase lighting equipment for site (Which was used both for Shattered World, and other larps under the LarpWest banner)
  • The LARP Ravenswood Institute for site hire
  • The OASIS Larp, for purchase of equipment
  • LARP Kit, to pay for developer costs to accelerate their project time-frames.
  • Additional funds were pledged to the Boddington site for a toilet block and water towers, and additional trees from local nurseries for improving vegetation on site.

Any remaining money that Shattered World held was put towards paying for hire of council grounds for Wednesday night (and on a trial basis Thursday night) training for the following 1.5 years, with the organisation team remaining involved to oversee the final payments.
