Costuming Hints are short descriptions of characters send out to players in advance of (or instead of) sending character sheets, for the purpose of allowing players to work on Costuming in advance of seeing the full character.

This practice was far more common in the Theatre-style community prior to the near-universal adoption of the Internet -- however, it is still used in cases where the character sheets are in progress when the players are notified of who they are playing, when only general aspects of characters are determined pre-game, rather than character details, or, as in many Amnesia games, when casting is pre-determined, but there is a game-related reason players are not given their sheets before the game starts.
