Mission statement
Dragon*Con is the largest multi-media, popular culture convention focusing on science fiction and fantasy, gaming, comics, literature, art, music, and film in the universe!
History
Back in the day, there was no such thing as Live Action Roleplaying at Dragon*Con. There was a big room, with a lot of tables and paper and dice. Then, one year, someone suggested we gamers do the unthinkable and Step Away From the Table.
1995 - The first LARPs are run at this convention, late at night in the lower hallways of the Hilton.

1996 -
LARP Floor play space is relocated within the Hilton from the basement hallways to the 4th floor. The Hilton Security team shows its love for all things Not Mundane by breaking up large groups in public areas.

1997 -
LARP Floor play space is on the 4th floor of the Hilton again this year. The Hilton Security team ups the ante from last year by forbidding groups from congregating in public areas. Their definition of the word "group" is soon discovered to mean "2 or more people. On behalf of their players, game staffers asks the convention higher-ups for a dedicated gamer-friendly play space for live-action gaming groups.

1998 -
The LARP "floor" is split between the lower hallways of the Hilton, the lobby of the Atlanta Apparel Mart, and the 4th/10th Floor bars of the Westin Peachtree Plaza. On behalf of their exhausted players, and noting the irony of how their request from the previous year was fulfilled, game staffers go to the convention higher-ups again with a request for a single dedicated gamer-friendly play space for live-action gaming groups.

2010 -
Several of our long-running games couldn't make it to the show this year, but that left room for some great production companies to step up and take a turn on the LARP floor! Game Staff is also treated to coffee and donuts each morning during set-up, in addition to the annual pizza party on Sunday afternoon. The first annual DragonLARP Awards ceremony is held on Monday morning, with competition hot and heavy for the coveted Director's Award. Panels were, once again, a place of passionate friendly exchange, so much so that the Storytellers' Roundtable was allowed to go over schedule so the awesome conversation could continue!
