An example of a coded character nametag from Flight of the Hindenburg.

Nametags or Name Badges are used in some larps to convey information to the players. They can either be diagetic, existing in-game, or non-diagetic, existing out-of-game, depending on the larp's setting. In addition to a character's name, they can be used to convey in-game information (e.g. using a badge code), as a sideband for mechanical information or to reinforce the setting, or purely for out-of-game information such as play preferences or preferred pronouns.

In some larp communities, use of non-diagetic name badges is viewed as fatally compromising immersion.
