A framework game is a theatre-style larp which does not use pre-written characters and where the plot is driven by a GM-imposed structure rather than pre-seeded in the character backgrounds. The style is common in Nordic larps and is strongly influenced by the Dogma 99 larp manifesto.

For example, in New Voices in Art the players play "a version of themselves" who is a modern artist. Each is given a random artwork and a statement about how they feel about it. The game is driven by a public vote on an art prize and a monologue mechanic, which together give the characters a strong reason to talk to one another and a means of revealing the inner insecurities they are supposed to portray.
