The game was played outdoors between two teams of participants: "the Fellowship", who were trying to take the Ring to Mt Doom, and "the Dark Team", who were trying to stop them. The rules were essentially tag, with members of the fellowship being captured at any time they were outnumbered by members of the other team. Safe areas, danger areas, and specific character powers added additional twists.<br />
