New page

A larp franchise is a model of larp organisation used in the USA, in which a larp is run as a chain of businesses, with the right to use its rules and setting licenced on a regional level in exchange for fees and royalties. The franchise typically provides shared services, such as a player database or shared marketing, and requires the franchisee to purchase specified materials and props such as rulebooks, GM manuals and larp money. They often claim ownership of all player and character information.

The most significant larp franchises are Dystopia Rising and NERO.

The model does not appear to be used outside the USA.
