Combat numbers are a mechanic used in some theatre-style larps for simulated combat. Each character is given a number which represents their skill in combat. The rules can be deterministic - a higher number always beats a lower one - or allow some scope for chance e.g. if the numbers differ by less than twenty then paper-scissors-rock or a card draw is used. Numbers can be open (e.g. printed on the character's nametag), or secret; fixed, or modifiable in-play with items.
