A character sheet is a document which contains the required information to play a character in a larp. Exactly what information is included will depend on the type of larp and the rules (if any) used.

In theatre-style games

A theatre-style character sheet focuses on the characters background, knowledge and relationships: who they are, who and what they know, and what they have done in the past. It will include, either implicitly or explicitly, the character's goals, what they are trying to achieve during the game. Everything else is optional.

Other material that may be included:

  • Mechanical details, such as statistics, abilities, and special weaknesses;
  • Information on groups a character belongs to;
  • A list of items or required props;
  • Suggestions for actions during play.

Information on groups a character belongs to can be included in the character sheet, or can be on a seperate blue sheet.

Character sheet length can vary significantly, from half a page for a simple game to seven or more for a complex one. The ideal is considered to be 1 - 2 sides of paper.

In other games

A piece of paper or index card on which is written a character's stats, abilities, strengths and weaknesses. The Character Sheet represents what a character can do or what their limitations are. In some games, characters earn Experience Points which are recorded on the Character Sheet and used to purchase more abilities.
